The “Winter Honors Program”, held by Peking University School of Transnational Law, targets students who are potential to exempt from postgraduate qualifying examination. By the program, STL devotes to communicate and get early touch with the top students we value and will recruit those who meet our requirements as exam-exempted students.

The program started with STL Chancellor Dean Jeffrey Lehman’s lecture about “what is law” and “what is legal rule”. Through his interpretation, the students got a general idea about law so that to have better preparation for the following study. Stephen Yandle, Associate Dean of STL, shared his self legal career with the students. He recalled his life in Yale University as the Associate Dean of the Yale Law School as well as remarked American teaching method and STL Socratic pedagogy. Besides, Prof. David Blankfein-Tabachnick gave two sample classes of Property and Prof. Barry Slutsky delivered some moot court debate skills. Two of the teaching fellows Ann Chernicoff and Andrew Knepley also practiced the real counterargument to the students.

Hai Wen, Vice President of Peking University responsible for Shenzhen Graduate School, also talked with the students and gave a brief introduction about the campus.

In addition to course study, we also scheduled two days in Hong Kong and led the students to visit Hong Kong International Arbitration Center, Legal Aid Department and Hong Kong Independent Commission against Corruption (ICAC).

The climax of the program should be the moot court debate. All the students are required to attend the moot court and debate as different sides in the first two rounds. And finally, Ling Rundong and Bian Sai from Peking University, Wu Xiaolong from Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Chen Minyu from Shanghai International Studies University, stood out to debate in the final moot court. Their excellent performance impressed our deans and professors.

Most of the participants performed very well during the “Winter Honors Program” and finally got the admission letter with the premise that they could get the postgraduate exam-exempted qualification. We expect that more top students will attend our “Summer Honors Program” during this August.
…… [点击标题查看详细]
